Assistant Scenographer – Props & Set Dressing
We are looking for an Assistant Scenographer – Props & Set Dressing
for the new production by Anne-Cécile Vandalem & Das Fräulein Kompanie at Théâtre National Wallonie-Bruxelles with set design by ruimtevaarders (Karolien De Schepper & Christophe Engels)
Period: from mid-February until the premiere on 23 September 2026, with preparations during the design phase starting December 2025

About the project
The new creation by Anne-Cécile Vandalem, developed in collaboration with ruimtevaarders, is set in contemporary Belgium. It explores the ghosts of privilege, guilt, and reconciliation that haunt a family’s search for truth. Through a cinematic and realistic scenography, the piece examines the tension between public image and private conscience, and how collective trauma f inhabits domestic space.
Your work
Intern assistant scenography / decorator / props and accessories manager
You will support the scenography team in the practical development and realisation of the set design.
You will work closely with the director, the scenographers and the technical team and take on real responsibility in a creative collaborative context.
Assisting with set dressing and scenographic decoration
Researching, sourcing, and acquiring props and materials in close collaboration with the designers
Helping coordinate and prepare scenic elements during rehearsals
Acting as a link between the rehearsal space and the scenography team
Participating in an international artistic environment and gaining hands-on experience in a professional theatre production
Your profile
You have a strong interest in scenography and visual storytelling.
You can work independently and accurately, but also enjoy teamwork.
You are flexible, organised and communicative.
You have a good working knowledge of English and preferably also French
You live in or can easily travel to and be present in Brussels during all production periods.
You preferably have a driving licence or are willing to arrange your own transport and/or transport related to the performance of your duties if necessary.
What we offer
Internship agreement during the school period with remuneration in line with the framework of your educational institution or up to the legal amount of the volunteer allowance in Belgium. Details will be discussed with the selected candidates.
Subject to a positive evaluation, there is the possibility of extending the internship to a paid assignment in the final phase leading up to the premiere.
Timing & requirements
Design phase: December 2025-February 2026
Rehearsal period 1: 13-27 February 2026
Rehearsal period 2: 8-26 June 2026
Rehearsal period 3: 17 August – 22 September 2026 (completion)
Premiere: 23 September 2026
Between December 2025 and February 2026, the scenography will be developed in close collaboration with the director Anne-Cécile and the artistic team. Participation in this design phase is recommended as it offers the opportunity to attend meetings with the director and other departments (set design, costumes, lighting, video) and gain insight into how a theatre production develops from concept to realisation.
Full attendance during all rehearsal periods is a must for team and work continuity.
